Secrets of Episodes 1 and 2

  • December 2, 2013

One thing we set out to do with Missing Something is make it a series that gives you more each time you watch it. You’ll see how this manifests itself in the writing and plot twists as we release more episodes, but it also applied very strongly to the details in the set, and Christopher Vincent’s wonderful art direction.

There are secrets hidden all over every episode, and jokes that you have to look hard to notice. For example, did anyone spot what gave Rachel the idea to pretend to be a temp in Episode 2? Or watch Episode 1 with a really good pair of headphones* to hear what the band outside is playing during the first scene, and spot the reference?

There are also lots of games that we’ll be describing over the next couple of weeks – including Spot The Gent, The Twenty Something Game, and The List-The-Game-Game, all involving hidden content in the series. So keep your eyes peeled.

But there’s loads more that are just in there for fun.

For example, the magnets in Episode 1:

(Tip: watch the magnets as the series progresses, and you’ll be a step ahead of the curve…)

Or, one of my favourite almost-imperceptible details, the things that change between the two kitchen scenes in Episode 2. Spot the difference:

And gamer fans of Half-Life (all gamers, surely?) – have you may have spotted G-Man is hiding in the Office? Or Aaron’s clumsy re-imagining of the Half-Life characters on posters on the walls of the office?

There’s so much more hidden in the series. I hope this has given you a taste of what to look out for. And look carefully, and you’ll find some great clues to what’s to come.

Spotted anything yourself? We’d love to know what you’ve seen. Let us know what secrets you’ve found in the comments below!

*To be fair, this is so hidden that we’ll probably turn the volume up when we release director’s cuts of the series. You need a really good set of speakers and to turn the volume up loud. But what’s the point of having a hidden secret if it’s easy to find?
